Upcoming tutorial on the first prototype of the AMICO (Apparato MIlanese per il Calcolo Opportunistico) computing infrastructure, which is now available for all members of the Milano Physics Department and INFN-MI. AMICO currently federates approximately 2000 CPUs from several clusters belonging to different groups in the dept./INFN section. The infrastructure is built such that the owner of a specific cluster maintains the priority on the access to their resources while other users have potentially access to all cpus when not occupied by the respective owner. The computing resources of each federated cluster are organised in HTCondor pools and all pools are managed by a superpool which handles the priorities for the different users.

Solutions to share the required applications have also been tested (Docker, cvmfs ) as well as to store inputs and outputs in an efficient way (object storage).

The tutorial will consist in two half-day hands-on sessions in Laboratorio di Calcolo:
21th February 2019, 14.00-18.00 ( basic features )
22th February 2019,   9.00-13.00 ( advanced features )

We would invite all potentially interested users ( especially PhD students and post-docs ) to register at the following link before 11th January 2019: https://goo.gl/forms/aoqfsc6ozTLuPXRv2

In order to better tailor the tutorial on the effective users needs we are asking all participants to provide information on the typical way computing resources are used by them. The detailed list of topics discussed in the tutorial will be provided later based on the feedback from the poll.

The AMICO team.
